Tiny Voices, Powerful Words: Annual Poetry Recitation Competition at Kidzee Pre School, Rehari

On 20th December 2024, JK Arts Foundation organized an Annual Poetry Recitation Competition at Kidzee Pre School, Rehari, Jammu, engaging 14 young learners in a heartwarming celebration of language, expression, and confidence. Early childhood is a critical stage for developing communication skills, yet many children rarely receive opportunities to speak in front of an audience. This initiative aimed to introduce poetry as a joyful and accessible medium through which children could express emotions, imagination, and identity.
The event began with a gentle orientation for students, helping them feel comfortable and excited about participating. Children were encouraged to view poetry not as memorization alone, but as storytelling through voice, rhythm, and feeling. Teachers and the JKAF team supported students in practicing pronunciation, expression, and body language in a nurturing environment.

As each child stepped forward to recite their poem, a visible sense of courage emerged. Some recited confidently with clear voices, while others spoke softly yet proudly. Every effort was met with applause and encouragement, reinforcing the idea that participation itself is an achievement. Facilitators observed that even children who were initially hesitant gradually became more relaxed after watching their peers perform.
Teachers shared that such platforms play an important role in strengthening vocabulary, listening skills, and emotional awareness. One teacher reflected, “When children recite poems, they learn to express feelings in words. It also builds their confidence to speak in front of others.” The competition also offered teachers insight into each child’s personality, imagination, and linguistic development.
Beyond language skills, the event nurtured empathy and respect. Students listened attentively to one another and learned to appreciate different voices and styles. For many participants, this was their first experience of being on a stage-like setting, making the moment especially meaningful.
This initiative aligns with JK Arts Foundation’s mission to nurture creative intelligence and integrate expressive arts into early education. By introducing poetry and performance at the pre-school level, JKAF helps lay a strong foundation for communication, confidence, and self-belief.
The event concluded with smiles, proud parents and teachers, and a joyful sense of accomplishment among the children. At JK Arts Foundation, we believe that when children are given space to speak and be heard, even the smallest voices can carry powerful words.
