Project Khwaishein Sports Initiative at Balgran Charitable Home

On 28th February 2026, under the flagship initiative Project Khwaishein of Global Shapers Jammu Hub, in collaboration with JK Arts Foundation, a meaningful outreach was conducted at Balgran Charitable Home for Destitute Children, Jammu, bringing the gift of play and movement to children through the donation of sports supplies and games. The initiative recognized that for children growing up in institutional care, opportunities for recreation, physical activity, and joyful play are often limited—yet these experiences are essential for healthy development and emotional well-being.
As part of the outreach, children received a range of sports and play materials including badminton and cricket sets, frisbees, football, skipping ropes, shuttlecock packs, Cosco balls, and indoor games such as a Ludo box. These resources were thoughtfully selected to encourage both individual play and group interaction, ensuring that children of different ages and interests could participate and engage.
The distribution quickly transformed the atmosphere of the Balgran campus. Children gathered eagerly around the new equipment, testing badminton swings, kicking footballs across the courtyard, and forming small teams for games. Laughter, movement, and friendly competition filled the space, replacing routine stillness with energetic expression. Facilitators observed how even children who were usually reserved became more animated and socially engaged when invited into play.
Sports and games play a vital role in childhood development. They support physical fitness, coordination, and motor skills while also nurturing teamwork, resilience, confidence, and emotional regulation. For children in vulnerable circumstances, structured play becomes especially important—it provides a safe outlet for energy, reduces stress, and fosters belonging. Caregivers at Balgran shared that access to sports materials allows children to spend more time outdoors, interact positively with peers, and experience the simple joy of play that every child deserves.
Project Khwaishein, dedicated to fulfilling meaningful needs and wishes of underserved children, extends beyond material support to create experiences that nurture dignity and happiness. Through this collaboration, Global Shapers Jammu Hub and JK Arts Foundation reaffirmed their shared commitment to holistic child development—recognizing that education must include not only learning and creativity, but also movement, play, and recreation.
The day concluded with children continuing to play long after the formal distribution ended—a living reminder that small interventions can create lasting impact. At JK Arts Foundation, we believe that when children are given space to move, play, and connect, they reclaim an essential part of childhood: joy.
